Why Training for a Marathon?
Many people outside of the running world wonder what the attraction is to running and training for marathons. To anyone outside the marathon-training world many do not see the glamour in it. Not only the glamour but for many runners while they are either training or in the actual marathon you get lost in the moment you in a sense disappear in your own little world.
As Noel Carroll stated, "Running is the classical road to self-awareness, self-consciousness, and self-reliance. Independence is the outstanding characteristic of the runner. He learns the harsh reality of his physical and mental limitations when he runs. He learns that personal commitment, sacrifice and determination are his only means to betterment...”
For many runners the goal for their first marathon entry is to finish. It is a personal goal for them to run across that finish line regardless of what their time is. The majority who continue on running in marathons will set personal goals for themselves
For the average runner the marathon is a true test of your commitment to all your training. For the dedicated marathon runner it not only takes proper training, race experience, and proper diet, you will also need mental ability to overcome any pain that pain arise in the 42KM
